Edmonton’s mature neighbourhoods are great places to live and have many treasures including District Activity Parks. These parks serve several neighbourhoods in the larger area and are important for health, wellness and quality of life. They are part of a city-wide park system and support a wide variety of facilities, programs and open space activities.
Glengarry Park, 13340 85 Street, is a District Activity Park located in the Glengarry neighbourhood. The City has completed a master plan to establish a long-term vision for this park. It includes a concept plan which was created using input and ideas gathered through public engagement. This plan will be used to shape the park’s future, taking into consideration the interests expressed by the public, use of existing amenities, new amenities and activities, operational requirements and City strategy and policies.

Work is ongoing in Glengarry Park and is expected to be complete in June 2023.
Fencing will remain in designated work areas to ensure public safety. Please watch your mailbox for construction bulletins that will provide more information along with contact details for any concerns regarding landscaping and access.
Construction work will be suspended until spring 2023. Once the weather allows, the remainder of the work will be completed:
The construction fence will be adjusted to allow park access during the winter. Fencing will remain in designated work areas to ensure public safety.
The fencing plan will be re-evaluated in the spring before work resumes.
Construction is in progress and focused on the north side of the park. The walking trails have been renewed, and new playground and spray park structures are being installed. Other park amenities, including furniture and a dog park, will also be installed. New pickleball courts will be constructed adjacent to the tennis court area.
Tree removals and transplantation to relocate trees on the north side of the park was completed in early spring. A combination of deciduous and coniferous trees will be planted in 2022.
Currently, the plan for construction is to allow the park to remain open and fence off areas where active construction is taking place. Every effort will be made to limit the amount of time the park is fully closed while still prioritizing public safety.
The following amenities will remain open and accessible throughout construction:
Residents living nearby may experience increased noise levels and traffic. We are continuing to abide by the Community Standards Bylaw 14600 for noise from construction, and in many cases, are able to complete the work earlier than the guidelines require.

Construction will begin in September. Work will start at the soccer field and the ball diamond on the east side of the park. This will be the focus for 2021.
Tree removals in the south side of the park will begin in September. Removals are necessary to meet the required safety setbacks for the soccer fields and the ball diamond.
Currently, the plan for construction is to allow the park to remain open and fence off areas where active construction is taking place. In the event that full park closure is required, the project team will add signage in and around the park to inform residents. Every effort will be made to limit the amount of time the park is fully closed while still prioritizing public safety. Construction will take place over two years (2021 and 2022).

The Glengarry District Park Renewal Project Team has been busy over the winter months. We are now preparing the detailed design and tender package so we can begin construction later this summer. The list of park amenities that are included will renew and enhance the park for many generations to come.
Construction on the select renewal and growth amenities in Glengarry Park is planned for summer 2021 to summer 2022. The park renewal will focus on the northern portions of the park.
Thank you to everyone who engaged with us virtually and provided additional feedback on 2 growth park amenities - the skateboard park and mountain bikes skills park. We will be taking the input we received and using it to finalize our design plan (see What We Heard Report). We will share the design plan with the public for feedback in early 2021.
Construction on the renewal amenities in Glengarry Park is planned for summer 2021 to summer 2022 while construction on the growth amenities will happen should funding become available.
Thank you to everyone who engaged with us virtually and provided feedback on the preliminary design ideas as we adjusted our engagement practices as a result of COVID-19.
Our online survey closed on September 22, 2020. Feedback received from the public, together with technical input, City policies, programs and funding, will inform the Glengarry District Park design.
In late fall 2020, we will present the design plan for Glengarry District Park, highlight how feedback was used to inform the plan, what elements will occur as part of renewal (2021 construction) and what elements may occur at a later date, as part of growth and when future funding becomes available.
Thank you to those that provided feedback during the concept phase to help create the master plan. The Master Plan (12MB) is now complete and will be used to guide the future of the park. The Master Plan includes a Concept Plan which was created using input and ideas gathered through public engagement.
As part of the 2019-2022 Capital Budget, funds have been allocated to renew portions of the Glengarry District Park. The concept plan that was created as part of the master planning process from 2016 through 2018 will be used as the foundation for preliminary design.
Public engagement sessions will be planned to seek the public’s input and help refine the design.
