The Lewis Farms Facility and Park project includes a community recreation centre, public library, academic centre and district park.
The Lewis Farms Facility and Park will be located in the Rosenthal neighbourhood and will include a community recreation centre, public library and district park.
A need for a new facility in the west end was identified in the
and the .Public engagement and stakeholder feedback supported a Final Design for a multi-purpose recreation centre that contains aquatic elements, indoor ice amenities, a fitness centre, multi-purpose spaces and gymnasiums, and an Edmonton Public Library branch. The district park outdoor components include sports fields, gathering spaces, skateboard park, and walkways. Feedback results can be viewed in the What We Heard report.

The following work has been completed prior to this phase:
In December 2014, City Council approved funding for the schematic design of the Lewis Farms Community Recreation Centre and the Lewis Farms Library.
Public Engagement:
The City of Edmonton began public and stakeholder engagement in April 2015 to build on the work completed earlier and identify emerging needs to be included in design. The City created a public engagement plan that outlined who the City would engage with and how. It also ensured a balance and range of public perspectives would be provided for consideration in the decision-making process.
Sharing Ideas
This was the public’s first opportunity to get involved and tell the City what activities the public would like to do in the Lewis Farms recreation centre, public library and district park.Exploring Options
The public’s second opportunity to get involved. The City took all the feedback from the Sharing Ideas event and online surveys to create concept design options. The public had the opportunity to review these options that created the draft schematic design.Setting the Direction
The public’s third opportunity to get involved. The City presented the draft schematic design to get the public’s final input to create the schematic design.
In spring 2017, based on public input, the schematic design, the details and cost of the Lewis Farms Facility and Park was shared with City Council for direction.
In May 2017, City Council approved funding for the complete design of the Lewis Farms Facility and Park.
Public Engagement:
The City initiated a new public engagement phase that continued to build on the earlier engagement. It ensured that a balance and range of public perspectives was considered in the decision process.
Detailing the Design
The public’s fourth opportunity to get involved. Draft detailed designs were presented to get the public’s input. We used the feedback to inform the final detailed design.Finalizing the Design Public Information Session
The City shared the final design which resulted from feedback over the past 4 engagement sessions.
This stage will begin if funding for construction is approved.
Facility fit-up, testing and training, with anticipated opening to the public in early fall.
Anticipated facility construction completion at the end of 2026.
Construction is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2022 following the re-design exercise to remove the former Academic Centre from the current design.
Construction will take just over four and a half years to complete.
