Rehabilitation work is underway in the Kinsmen Fieldhouse.
The Kinsmen Fieldhouse is closed from April 13, 2026 to summer/fall 2027 for necessary rehabilitation. We know temporary closures are inconvenient, and we are working diligently to complete this work as quickly and safely as possible. Thank you to Kinsmen Sports Centre members and visitors for your patience while this work disrupts your normal routines.
The City of Edmonton project team is working closely with Kinsmen Sports Centre operations to reduce construction impacts and keep facility members, visitors and tenants informed.
Project Update - Spring 2026
Construction for Phase 3 rehabilitation, which focuses on the Kinsmen Fieldhouse, is underway. This phase involves:
Installation of artificial turf on centre courts 1 through 4.
Addition of a five-lane synthetic competitive lower running track.
An expanded and reimagined functional training centre.
Installation of new sports flooring for the functional training area and sport courts 5 through 8, including court dividers.
Adding of a new second batting cage.
Window upgrades, which will enhance natural lighting.
Installation of a new staircase in the upper hallway. The area where the existing staircase is located, on the fieldhouse upper running/walking track, will be filled in.
Upgraded “back-of-house” systems, including heating, cooling, mechanical, electrical and structural, for improved building performance.
Aquatic centre and fieldhouse lighting upgrades.
These facility enhancements reflect the City of Edmonton’s commitment to creating a modern, high-performing sport and fitness space for Edmontonians. Following rehabilitation, the Fieldhouse will continue serving the community for years to come.
Scheduled facility shutdowns are essential for the City of Edmonton's recreation centres. These planned closures ensure the facilities remain safe, functional and relevant, allowing

Project Overview
Kinsmen Sports Centre has been operating since 1968 and was identified in the 2019-2022 Capital Budget as a priority for rehabilitation work to fix, replace and upgrade major mechanical and electrical systems, some of which are more than 50 years old.
The Kinsmen Sports Centre Rehabilitation Project involves the replacement and upgrading of aging mechanical, electrical and structural systems in the aquatic centre and fieldhouse, as well as parking lot renewal. This project is being completed in phases to minimize its impact on Kinsmen Sports Centre operations.
In 2023, the rehabilitation project was downsized when funding was shifted to support other City of Edmonton building rehabilitation priorities.
Following this change, the project involved the removal and replacement of the headwall at the Don Smith Memorial Pool, as well as aquatic centre health and safety compliance and legislative priority items. These upgrades brought the Don Smith Memorial Pool and the aquatic centre deep tank up to current health and safety standards.
Design for the remaining rehabilitation work is complete. Construction will advance as funding permits.
The Phase 3 rehabilitation (Kinsmen Fieldhouse) resumed after Edmonton City Council approved the required funding as part of the Spring 2025 Supplemental Capital Budget Adjustment.
Project Timeline
Design and construction are occurring at the same time and in phases. This phased approach allows Kinsmen Sports Centre to continue operating while its amenities are being rehabilitated.
Thank you to Kinsmen Sports Centre members and visitors for your patience while this work disrupts your normal routines. We know temporary closures are inconvenient and we are working diligently to complete this rehabilitation project as quickly and safely as possible.
