Many homes in Edmonton have registered secondary suites, like garden, basement and garage suites. Each registered suite receives its own set of carts and is charged its own monthly waste utility rate.

Personal information is collected for the purpose of administering the Secondary Suite Cart Sharing program and will be used to validate your application and register you in the program. Collection is authorized under section 33(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act and is managed and protected in accordance with the Act. Program Conditions

If the property's suites have separate EPCOR accounts, the one you designate as the primary account will receive the utility bill. The primary account holder is responsible for the property's participation in the Secondary Suite Cart Sharing program and complying with the Waste Services Bylaw.
If the property's EPCOR account holder changes, the property's participation in the program will automatically end. The new account holder will need to reapply for the program.
The primary account holder may cancel the property's participation in the Secondary Suite Cart Sharing program at any time by submitting a cancellation request through 311 or wastesupport@edmonton.ca.
Cancellation will take effect when a second set of carts is delivered to the property (this may take up to one month).
Waste Services may cancel the property's participation in the Secondary Suite Cart Sharing program at any time with 30 days' notice.
Properties participating in the Secondary Suite Cart Sharing program are not eligible for the Excess (360 L) Garbage Cart program.

We will review the information you provided in your application and contact you if we have any questions. If you do not receive a response regarding your application after 5 business days, please call the City of Edmonton Waste Customer support team at 780-496-5698.

Cart Sharing Application

You can apply to share one set of carts (either 120L carts or 240L carts are eligible) with your suite(s) and pay only one monthly waste utility rate. One set of carts includes one garbage cart and one food scraps cart.

To apply:

You must be an EPCOR account holder

You will need your EPCOR account number (the 8-digit number on your EPCOR bill)

Once we review your application, we will send an email to let you know whether or not you are approved for the program. Your rate savings will take effect the day after we collect your extra set of carts. You can cancel your participation in the program anytime by calling 311.

Please note:

If a property’s EPCOR account holder changes, the property’s participation in the program will automatically end. The new account holder will need to reapply for the program.

If your suite has a separate EPCOR account (they receive their own bill), you will need to list both accounts on the application form and designate one as the primary account. The primary account will be billed the full waste utility rate each month (it cannot be split between two accounts).

Only 120L and 240L carts are eligible for the cart sharing program. Residents who are on the excess waste program are not eligible for cart sharing.

Haven’t received your second set of carts?

If you have a secondary suite but haven’t received a second set of carts, you will need to register your secondary suite. You will first need to obtain development approval for your suite. Please contact 311 or visit Secondary Suites for more information.

If your suite is already registered with the City via Development Services and you haven’t received carts, it’s possible that your secondary suite has not been registered with EPCOR. Please call our Waste Customer Support team at 780-496-5698 for assistance.
