The Research and Analysis Unit provides information and analysis to support decision making.

The City reports on measures related to growth in the City of Edmonton. This helps ensure services are provided where needed, both in newer and older parts of the city, and to evaluate the impacts of policies.

Edmonton has a widely diverse population with many long term residents and an increasing number of new residents ready to make Edmonton home. Population growth continues strong through both net migration and natural increase as people move here and begin families. Our communities have a  natural lifecycle as residents begin families, grow up and age.

The  2017 Growth Monitoring Report offers a summary snapshot of city growth, including sections on Edmonton's place in the region, demographics, land use, development patterns and trends, non-residential land, housing and hot spots for growth.

Data from this section is sourced from Statistics Canada and the City of Edmonton. The most recent Federal Census took place in 2016, and results are being released as they become available. Results from the 2016 Municipal Census have been released.
