Process Overview

Recruitment Cycles

The City of Edmonton runs three recruitment cycles each year:

Eligibility

Eligibility varies by agency. General guidelines include:

Residency

  • City Agencies require Edmonton residency
  • Other agencies consider residency, but it is not a requirement
  • Those with work or study permits are eligible to apply, as long as the board requirements and term commitments can be fulfilled

Employment With City Bodies

  • City of Edmonton employees may be eligible for most agencies (conflicts of interest are considered)
  • City employees may not serve on Tribunals
  • Edmonton Public Library (EPL) employees and their family cannot serve on the EPL Board

Serving on Multiple Agencies

  • Most individuals usually serve on only one City agency at a time
  • You may apply to multiple agencies. However, you must disclose any current appointments

How to Apply

Step 1: Review Opportunities

Read the Recruitment Posting for each agency to understand expectations, time commitments and skill requirements to help you decide which agency is the best fit for you.

Additional information is available on each agency’s website, including meetings, reports, and social media links.

Step 2: Apply Online

Applications are submitted through the City of Edmonton's Recruitment System (Taleo)

  • Shortlisted candidates must submit 2 letters of reference
  • Tribunal applicants must submit a resume with 3 references
Step 3: Interviews

Shortlisted applicants are interviewed with the applicable Standing Committee of Council.

For the Major Recruitment (January 2026), interviews will happen in late March.

Step 4: Appointments

Standing Committees recommend appointments to City Council.

Major Recruitment appointments are typically made in April and take effect May 1.
