ETS offers travel training for seniors, riders with disabilities and riders who need extra support and orientation to learn to use ETS.

Mobility Choices Travel Training

This program is available year-round.

About the Program

This is a free, customized travel training program for seniors, people with disabilities, newcomers, and staff of agencies/organizations that work with these groups. The program provides information, orientation and instruction about ETS, including accessible features, services and programs that are available. The program is open to groups or individuals, and instruction is tailored to the needs and abilities of the participants.  The focus of the training is to educate and empower participants to learn to use transit independently and with confidence.

For individuals who need more focused instruction, one-on-one training is also available. ETS can also provide instruction to agency staff who work with clients who use transit (Train the Trainer).

For individuals using mobility aids such as wheelchairs, mobility scooters, or power chairs, we can also provide an opportunity to practice using the aid on a not in service transit bus, or try a new aid before purchase to ensure it can be accommodated on Edmonton Transit vehicles.

Mobility Card

The Mobility Card is a reflective 3" x 5" card with a 'K' on one side and an 'R' on the other. By showing the 'K' (orange side), the bus operator will lower or kneel the bus kneel. Showing the 'R' (green side) tells the operator to lower the ramp.

Let the operator know if you need the ramp lowered or the kneeling feature to leave the bus. The card is only for bus service, not for the LRT.

You can get your free mobility card from the Edmonton Service Centre or call the ETS Customer Training Office at 780-496-3000.

ETS provides Customer Communication Cards to help customers communicate their trip needs to their bus driver.

The cards have been designed for customers who have difficulty verbally expressing their transit trip needs because of a cognitive or physical disability. They include different messages to help riders communicate with the ETS operator in a discreet way.

Customer Communication Cards are free and are available from the ETS Travel Training Office at 780-496-3000.

Bus Hailer Kit

The Bus Hailer Kit is for customers with visual or cognitive disabilities. The plastic sleeve holds three numbers on each side.

Showing the hailer kit at shoulder height as the bus pulls into the stop tells the Operator what route number you want. Each card has the Braille version of that number in the corner.

These free kits are available from the CNIB at 780-488-4871, or from the ETS Customer Training Office at 780-496-3000.
