Did you know that two thirds of Edmontonians live within a ten minute walk of a natural area park? These parks are different from conventional, manicured parks. They are managed in a way that puts nature first, by protecting native wildlife habitat and natural processes. These parks also let us learn about nature right in our own backyard.

This Conservation Atlas provides information about the natural area parks in Edmonton's tablelands (the flat lands above the River Valley and ravines). It contains hotlinks to detailed information and maps of each location. You can also use the atlas key (legend) at the bottom of the page to view the corresponding site information.

Explore these pages to learn about the location of natural area parks near your neighbourhood, how to access them, what plants and wildlife you might find at each, and to see photos of each site. We hope you enjoy learning about these unique areas.

Next Steps

The next step in this project is to include similar information for Edmonton's river valley and ravines. The tableland sites were prioritized because they are generally not as widely-known as the river valley and ravine areas.

Reports

In some cases, additional reports have been listed on the site pages; however, many of these reports are not available for distribution on-line. If you are interested in viewing these reports please contact the Office of Natural Areas Conservation (see contact info below).

We'd welcome your input!

If you have information or photos you'd like to share with us about a natural area in the City of Edmonton, please email us. We hope to continue to build this Conservation Atlas over time, and we would love your help with this.
