Community Climate Adaptation Micro Grants, between $500 - $5,000, are available to support neighbourhood-driven climate adaptation projects and events that build connections, collaborations or partnerships with neighbours and community.

Grant Goals

The Community Climate Adaptation Micro Grant Program has the following goals to bring neighbours and communities together:

  • Empower community climate adaptation actions at a residential and neighbourhood level.
  • Strengthen education and awareness on the value and importance of private property landscaping as it relates to climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts.
  • Increase overall awareness of climate resilient actions through public education and outreach.

Eligibility Criteria

Grant Applicants Eligibility

Eligible applicants include:

  • Groups of 3 or more community-minded individuals who:

    • Live in separate households
    • Live within the municipal boundaries of the City of Edmonton
    • Are of legal age (18+)

    That includes one individual (or more) who is or is willing to apply to become a Climate Connector

  • Registered organizations such as community leagues, condo boards, seniors associations, homeowner associations
  • Registered charities

Note: Expenses will only be reimbursed after the expense has been incurred by the grant recipient. Supporting documentation, including receipts, will be required before reimbursement is provided.

Eligible Expenses

Examples of eligible expenses include:

  • Event and/or Program Logistics (for example venue, equipment rentals, event supplies)
  • Project Marketing and/or Communications (for example flyers, event promotion)
  • Service Contractors (such as people providing service related to a project)
  • Installation/construction materials
  • Permits (for example, greenspace use permits, infrastructure permits, development permits)
  • Honorariums for guest speakers/facilitators (restrictions may apply)
  • Plants from an eligible plant list:

Any proposed expenses not explicitly covered in the eligible or ineligible lists will be subject to the final determination by the City of Edmonton.

Funding Conditions

  • The project and/or event must be completed by November 1, 2026.
  • The funding amount will not exceed $5,000 and is dependent on project scope and criteria.
  • Grant requests may cover up to 100% of eligible expenses.
  • Funding is limited and the City reserves the right to accept applications on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Expenses will only be reimbursed after the expense has been incurred by the grant recipient. Supporting documentation, including receipts, will be required before reimbursement is provided.
  • Receipts submissions must be received no later than November 15, 2026.
  • Recipients of funds are to acknowledge the City of Edmonton wherever possible and appropriate. The City of Edmonton visual identity standards are available upon request.
  • Funding decisions made by the City of Edmonton are final and cannot be appealed.

The funds received shall not be used for a purpose beyond the objectives outlined by this grant. The applicant must demonstrate fiscal responsibility and manage its finances. Should an applicant make false representations or otherwise fail to meet any of the requirements of the grant to the City’s satisfaction, they may be subject to fund repayment. The applicant may also be ineligible for future funding or other procurement with the City of Edmonton until the outstanding dispute has been resolved.

Assessment Criteria

Grant funding awards will be considered based on the following criteria:

  • Project must align with the micro grant purpose and goals (see Section 1.1 Program Objectives and Goals)
  • Aligns with 1 or more of The City Plan policies (see Section 1.2 Eligibility)
  • Meet the requirements on who can apply (see Section 1.3 Who Can Apply)
  • Project/program/event addresses 1 or more climate hazard adaptations - extreme heat, extreme cold, wildfire smoke, overland flooding, extreme hail, extreme wind, drought, winter storms (see Section 1.4.1 Address Climate Hazard)
  • Meet the mandatory requirements (see Section 1.4.2 Mandatory Requirements)
  • Complete a project budget (Budget Template)
  • Complete the project, event or program by November 1, 2026
  • Complete Final Report within 30 days of the completion of the project

Submit Your Application

The Community Climate Adaptation Micro Grants open for applications starting May 4, 2026. Funding is limited and will be awarded on a "first come, first served" basis.
 

Submit Your Final Report

All Community Climate Adaptation fund recipients must submit a Final Report within 30 days of the completion of the project or event.

Please provide the following attachments to this form:

  • An updated copy of the budget that was submitted with the grant application
  • Three to five pictures of the project, program or event in operation
  • Any other relevant project, program, or event reporting documentation (such as event survey results, testimonials)
