The City Manager’s Office supports City Council by:
- Coordinating the advice and information going to Council through the Council Reports process
- Relaying information to Council on emerging issues and City services
- Overseeing work on corporate priorities including reconciliation, anti-racism, intergovernmental affairs, communications, public engagement and reputation management, and task forces
- Supporting legislative and quasi-judicial decision-making processes, enabling public participation in local government, and ensuring access to information and privacy rights through the Office of the City Clerk
- Providing employee, legal, risk management, claims, and security advice and service through the Employee and Legal Services Division
The Office also supports City Administration by:
- Supporting decision-making by providing logistical support for meetings and information/advice for executive-level deliberations
- Coordinating the executive-level work of departments and divisions
- Supporting community relationships which advance the City’s strategies and reputation
The Office of the Chief of Staff leads the effective administration and governance of the City of Edmonton corporation.
Led by the Chief of Staff, a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Office provides decisive strategic leadership on Council-driven priorities and corporate initiatives. The Office includes the High Level Office for Anti-Racism and Reconciliation, Intergovernmental Affairs, and the Department Strategy Section.
The Office of the Chief Communications Officer is the communications and engagement centre of excellence with a mandate to establish, maintain and ensure the consistent application of corporate standards for how the City listens, communicates and connects with the community.
The branch curates the City’s brand and voice through the delivery of creative products, compelling stories and shareable content. It also stewards corporate communications channels, manages an effective crisis and issues response program and integrates with department communications and engagement teams to coordinate and amplify City communications.
The Office of the Chief Communications Officer also demonstrates progress on key corporate initiatives, providing a solid understanding of Edmontonians’ views and a strong and balanced community voice through dynamic and inclusive corporate research and engagement.
The Office of the City Clerk is the primary contact regarding City Council business. The Office manages Council and Committee meetings, Council Protocol, quasi-judicial boards, municipal elections, the municipal census and appointments to civic agencies.
It also manages corporate records and oversees access to information and protection of privacy inquiries for the organization.The City Clerk is also the Access to Information and Privacy Head on behalf of the public body.
The City Clerk administers the legislative process for municipal government. The Clerk is responsible for ensuring Council meetings are conducted legally and provides procedural advice during meetings. The City Clerk is also the Returning Officer for municipal elections.
Employee and Legal Services empowers employees to achieve organizational and workforce outcomes by supporting the employee experience and helping Administration and City Council manage risk and make informed decisions.
The division is led by the Chief People Officer and the City Solicitor, both of whom are members of the Executive Leadership Team.
