Construction Update - October 2025
The second year of Gariepy Neighbourhood Renewal is underway! Construction started at the end of April and will consist of reconstruction and paving of the roads, removal and replacement of public sidewalk, curb, gutter and street lighting.
The work in Gariepy Park and Top of Bank Park (along 53 Avenue and Lessard Drive) has also started. This work is being delivered by a separate contractor and will be monitored by Open Space Infrastructure Delivery.
As construction continues on 57 Avenue and 172 Street, local road closures will be put in place. Access to Centennial School is restricted to the 174 Street and 57 Avenue intersection. Refer to the sketch for the affected areas and please follow posted detours.
Construction of new sidewalks is on schedule. Road reconstruction has begun on 57 Avenue and 172 Street, which will result in localized road closures. The replacement of street lights and poles is now tentatively scheduled for November, dependent on EPCOR crew availability.
The work in Gariepy Park and Top of Bank Park (along 53 Avenue and Lessard Drive) is nearing completion. This work includes new asphalt trails, concrete plazas, tree planting, site furniture, security lighting and small pedestrian bridges. Two larger bridges will be installed at Gariepy Ravine in the fall of 2025. Impacts from this construction and a detour map are available in the construction bulletin.
Please view this scope map to see the 2025 construction area.
Construction in Gariepy began in spring 2024 and is expected to take 2 years (planned completion fall 2025). Neighbourhood renewal in Gariepy is progressing on time and on budget.
