Planning and design is underway to renew Downtown alleyways.
Project Overview
The Downtown Alley Renewal project is part of the Neighbourhood Alley Renewal Program.
The majority of alleys in the downtown area are in poor condition and require reconstruction or rehabilitation. In some alleys, the potential for enhancing public space and vibrancy is being explored.
Construction may include reconstructing alley pavement and bases, renewed lighting and other upgrades, as needed.
Enhancements may include upgrading gravel alleys to paved alleys, installing new lighting, adding alley crossings, improving alley drainage and other minor improvements while maintaining the existing alley footprint.
This project is currently funded through to the Concept Phase, with future phases subject to funding approval in the 2027-2030 City budget cycle.
Concept planning is anticipated to be completed in 2026.
