Just as Edmonton has steadily grown, so has transit ridership. There are a number of projects for both bus and LRT currently underway to help manage traffic congestion and improve travel options throughout the city.

Capital Line: South

Major construction began in 2025 for Phase 1 along 111 Street, with significant work happening at the 23 Avenue and 111 Street intersection, and between 12 Avenue and 9 Avenue. Major construction is anticipated to take 4-5 years to complete, followed by testing and commissioning.

Valley Line: West

In 2025, Marigold Infrastructure Partners entered its fourth year of major construction on Edmonton’s 14-kilometre Valley Line West LRT.

Hydrogen and Electric Buses

Electric and hydrogen bus technology is where the public transit industry is headed so Edmonton is adding vehicles to its transportation fleet
