What is an Entertainment District?

The Government of Alberta has enacted legislation that allows municipalities to create a bylaw called an “Entertainment District”, with defined boundaries.

The Entertainment District designation allows patrons to take their drink from a licensed establishment out into the defined district.

This year’s pilot will help us shape what future Entertainment District events could look like across the city.

Drinking and Food

All drinks must be purchased from participating businesses along Rice Howard Way and in an approved to-go cup.

Drinks can be consumed anywhere within the district boundaries, but they must be disposed of before exiting.

You may not consume your own outside alcohol within the district. However, you are welcome to bring your own food or non-alcoholic beverages.

During Entertainment District hours, Rice Howard Way (101A Ave) between 100 Street and 100A Street will be closed to vehicle traffic every Saturday at 7am until Sunday at 2am.

North and south traffic will still flow on 100A Street during these times, and parkade access will be maintained.

For questions or concerns during Entertainment District hours, please call 311.
