TLC for LRT Projects
The City of Edmonton and CN Rail successfully enhanced pedestrian and vehicle safety and accessibility at the CN and LRT crossing by Belvedere LRT Station (129 Avenue between 58 Street and Fort Road). Crews replaced existing road crossing gates, installed new pedestrian gates and widened the sidewalk in February and March 2026.
Construction continues on the 103A Avenue and 99 Street underground pedway from Churchill LRT Station to the Station Lands development north of 104 Avenue.
In 2026, Ledcor will continue working on the following:
- Advancement and completion of excavation for the overall project.
- Continued installation of mechanical, electrical and architectural elements in the interior.
- Construction of the new “pop-up” structure near the CN Tower bus loop.
- Full roadway reinstatement and removal of detours in late summer/early fall 2026. Until this occurs, access to the City Hall parkade remains via 102A Avenue only.
Construction is anticipated to be complete in 2026.
In 2026, crews will perform at-grade crossing track rehabilitation to address aging infrastructure and improve the longevity of Edmonton's LRT system.
Track rehabilitation will occur at:
- 51 Avenue and 111 Street (Capital Line) *tentatively planned for May 15-19 (Victoria Day long weekend)
- 115 Avenue and 80 Street (Capital Line) near Exhibition Lands
In 2025, crews performed at-grade crossing track rehabilitation at:
- 111 Avenue and 106 Street (Metro Line) from May 16-20 (Victoria Day long weekend)
- University Avenue and 114 Street (Capital Line) from June 27 until the morning of July 1 (Canada Day long weekend)
For the above long weekends, the intersections were closed to vehicle traffic and the LRT. ETS had LRT replacement bus service in place for transit riders.
A new Chinatown Gate will be built in the downtown core on 97 Street between Jasper Avenue and 101A Avenue, where the original Edmonton Chinatown began. Foundation footings and landscaping were previously installed as part of the Jasper Avenue New Vision project. The City of Edmonton has worked with the City of Harbin and Edmonton’s Chinese community on the design of the new gate.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026 and is anticipated to be completed in 2027.
All escalators have been installed. Other work including the Central LRT Station beam rehabilitation must be completed before the final escalator can be opened for public use. Beam rehabilitation is anticipated to be complete in early 2026.
This work helps keep the escalators operating safely and efficiently.
