Opportunities for Indigenous Job Seekers

As the City of Edmonton continues on the path to learning, understanding and incorporating the TRC 94 calls to action, the City is committed to building opportunities for Indigenous people.

Work Experience Placements (Practicum)

Indigenous students can access paid and unpaid work experience opportunities as part of their educational program requirements. To access these opportunities, speak to your campus career center or work integrated learning office.

Indigenous Peoples Summer Student Program

The Indigenous Peoples Summer Student Program provides up to 5 months of meaningful summer employment. These opportunities provide Indigenous Students with experience, exposure, and an opportunity to learn more about the diverse careers available at the City of Edmonton. These are typically posted in February.

Nikaniw Program

Nîkânîw combines the cultural teachings and guidance of Indigenous Elders and Leaders with an aquatic pre-employment program for Indigenous youth and includes instruction of water safety education, first aid, CPR and leadership skills.
