The budget is the City’s plan for where we will get money (revenues) and how we will spend it (expenditures). It maps out how property tax dollars and other funding will be invested to provide the programs, services and construction projects Edmontonians rely on.

Every spring and fall, Council approves adjustments to our 4-year budget in response to significant changes.

What's New

On September 27, the City released its fiscal gap report.

While the City is in a stable financial condition, it is facing immense fiscal pressures. Cities have limited ways to raise revenues and are experiencing rapid population growth and higher service expectations. Over time, this has contributed to a fiscal gap, with the City of Edmonton’s ability to raise revenues falling short of its spending needs.

While not all of the things causing the fiscal gap are within the City’s control, the report also looks at strategies the City can use to help narrow it.

Council will discuss the report on October 9.
