Hosting grants support organizations with the hosting of eligible provincial, national or international recreational or amateur sport events within the city of Edmonton.
Application Intake Open
The Sport Event Hosting Grant is now accepting applications for 2026.
Funding Allocation
Applicants may receive a grant of up to 25% of eligible expenses for the event.
The grant amount is determined by the level of the event:

| Western Canadian | Up to $6,000 |
| National | Up to $6,500 |
| International | Up to $7,000 |
Grant Eligibility
Applicants must be a registered not-for-profit organization for at least 1 year prior to the grant deadline.
Amateur sport or recreational events must:
- Be endorsed or sanctioned by the appropriate provincial, western Canadian, national or international body
- Determine a champion for the respective level of competition
- Be open and not restricted to members of certain groups or clubs
Eligible and Ineligible Expenses
Eligible expenses include:
- Facility and/or equipment rentals
- Adjudication fees
- Printing
- Recognition awards
- Publicity
- Participant transportation within the City
Funding cannot be used for:
- Banquets or similar types of events
- Conferences and symposiums
- Events hosted by educational institutions or their affiliated foundations

Before you apply, please note:
- Late applications or applications received after the event will not be considered
- This funding program is open while funds last
- A budget report form must be completed along with the application form

Assessment And Approval Process
Applications will be reviewed and assessed at the discretion of the City of Edmonton’s Partnership and Events Section based on the general eligibility criteria.
Confirmation of funding will be provided to successful applicants prior to their event. Funding will be provided after the event when the post-event financial report is provided and reviewed.
Note: A maximum of 2 eligible grants per organization will be considered for funding in the grant period.
Reporting Requirements
Post-event applications should include a final report. A final report is required within 60 days of the event.
The final report must include:
- The approved event financials (a template will be provided to eligible applicants)
- The number of participants who attend the event
- How Edmontonians were engaged in the event (that is, as volunteers, participants, and so on) and the evidence of volunteer support relative to the scope of the event
- How the event brought provincial, national or international recognition (such as media coverage, social media hits) to Edmonton
- Documentation supporting that the event took place (for example: final results, newspaper report)
