The City and regional transit partners have been working collaboratively with the participating U-Pass Students’ Associations since the end of June. Due to the majority of classes being offered online, all 10 parties agreed that Fall U-Passes will not be issued.
COVID-19 has presented unique financial challenges for everyone, and the suspension of the Fall U-Pass is a temporary adjustment due to the pandemic. The U-Pass Program is a regional program, not simply a City of Edmonton program.
From September 1-December 31, ALL post-secondary students, no matter their age, at U-Pass institutions and institutions that were eligible for the Post-Secondary pass can use Youth fare products. Effective, September 1, a Youth monthly pass will cost $72.50. Students who occasionally use transit may purchase a Book of 10 Youth tickets for $19 (an $8 discount from adult price).
Children 12 and under ride free when accompanied by a fare-paying customer effective. Unaccompanied children must pay cash fare or use youth tickets to board the bus or LRT.
Youth fares are available to ETS customers who are 24 years old and under. Reduced rates for youth are available on tickets and monthly passes. There is no reduced rate for cash fare or single ticket purchases.
- Youth Tickets
The terms and conditions on the back of Youth Tickets currently in circulation state that they can be used by persons aged 17 years and under. Despite the age changing on February 1, 2020 (to be 24 years and under), the Youth Tickets that say 17 years and under will still remain valid.
Youth/Senior Tickets come in packs of 10. These tickets are restricted to persons aged 24 and under, and those 65+. Proof of age may be required by transit staff when using a Youth/Senior ticket. Tickets are valid for travel on all ETS service.
The Youth Monthly Pass allows an entire calendar month of travel on regular ETS service for persons aged 24 and under, or students up to their 20th birthday if they have current student ID.
During the regular academic year (September to June), we recommend that students purchase their monthly passes from the school they attend. Edmonton Catholic (ECS) and Edmonton Public (EPSB) school boards purchase these passes from ETS for full price and sell the passes to students at a discount. Contact your school directly for your student’s pass prices.
Proof of age and/or current student status must be presented to transit staff upon request, by any person using a Youth Monthly Pass.
Use of Yellow School Bus Pass on ETS
Edmonton Transit Service also permits limited use of the Yellow School Bus Pass on our system. Each Yellow Bus Pass holder is allowed six (6) trips per month on regular transit service for travel prior to 8pm. The Yellow Bus Pass must be punched by an Operator at the location marked on the pass, which is considered payment of one student fare. The student should receive a valid transfer for 90 minutes of travel; this is permitted for the pass holder only.
