The City of Edmonton is committed to attracting a diverse, productive, engaged, and talented workforce. As a result, our recruitment and selection processes are defensible, competitive, inclusive and reflect equal opportunity in accordance with appropriate laws, directives, procedures and collective agreements. We believe every person is equal in dignity and rights and will not be discriminated against with regard to race, religious beliefs, marital status, colour, gender, physical disability, mental disability, age, ancestry, place of origin or sexual orientation.
We have also taken steps to eliminate the appearance of impropriety as well as the potential for favouritism. Employees may not take part in, or in any way attempt to influence the hiring or placement process of a member of their immediate family. Furthermore, no one may be hired, transferred or promoted to a position in which a relative can be perceived to have influence over their promotion or supervision.
For all unionized positions, the City of Edmonton uses and adheres to the job description and the classification specifications of the position. Reviewing the classification specification will provide you with general information about the position you applied for. You will gain an understanding of typical duties performed, the knowledge, abilities and skills you need to excel and the education, training and experience required for the position.
For most positions, candidates will be required to participate in the following steps:

The process is quick and simple and allows you to update your profile at any time so your information is the most up to date.

Using a candidate profile, applicants may search for jobs and apply for available positions online. Resume attachment is mandatory. Ensure you have a resume available before applying to a job posting.
3. Assessment and interview process
Candidates whose qualifications and experience meet the job requirements may be contacted for an interview. Only candidates being considered for the position will be contacted. The interview will be an opportunity for the candidate to learn more about the position and for the interviewers to learn more about the candidate’s skills, experiences and past performance.
On average, the recruitment process takes about 4 – 6 weeks from the time the posting closes. Throughout the process candidates may log onto their online account and check their application status.
Once interviews have been completed, reference checks will be conducted. Mandatory questions about discipline and dismissal will be asked in all reference checks.
4. Job Offer
Once all the assessments, interviews and reference checks for a position are complete, the successful candidate will be contacted with a verbal offer. Unsuccessful candidates will be sent regret notification via email or post mail.
