The City of Edmonton Self-Serve portal allows residents and businesses access to the following:
- Apply for Permits: Submit applications for building, development, and trade permits.
- Manage Projects: Track permit status, view plans, respond to requests, and request inspections.
- Request Inspections: Book, cancel, or reschedule required inspections online.
- Business Licenses: Apply for commercial, home-based, or out-of-town business licenses.
- Pay Fees: Pay permit fees online via credit card, EFT, or other methods.
Account Management
To create an account, click "Sign Up" at selfserve.edmonton.ca.
Click the “Forgot username and/or password” button at selfserve.edmonton.ca to receive a password reset link via email (if an account is registered to the email provided). If you encounter other issues, please email the request to eservices@edmonton.ca.
- Change Email: Click the "Change Email" button under the My Profile section in your accounts drop-down menu.
- Change Company Name or Account Type: Email the request to eservices@edmonton.ca.
For business accounts, the customer ID can be found under Account Information within the My Profile section of your accounts drop-down menu.
Payments
Log into your Self-Serve account and click on the permit. An option to make a payment will appear when fees are owing. If you do not see the permit, contact the applicant and ask to be listed as a team member with either edit or manage access so the permit appears on your portal.
All online permit applications must be paid for using Visa or MasterCard. If you do not wish to pay online, payment can be made at the Edmonton Service Centre as a walk-in customer or by booking a payment appointment.
Permits and Project Management
Check the status of your draft on your dashboard. The status on the right-hand side will indicate whether the application is "submitted/in review" or if it is still a "draft." If you encounter issues, please reach out to eservices@edmonton.ca.
Open the draft and select the “Cancel Application” button in the top right-hand corner.
When City staff request additional information, project members with applicable access will be advised via email with instructions. You can also refer to the More Information Requested (MIR) guide for reply instructions.
Yes, after a Development or Building Permit is issued, you can request a revision. See the Permit Revision guide for instructions.
The permit holder can add team members to the permit application using the Team Settings feature on Self-Serve. Refer to theTeam Settings Frequently Asked Questions for more information.
The applicant or manager can make contractor changes through the portal before inspections commence. Once inspections have begun, a Contractor Change Request form is required.

Inspections can be booked online by logging in, selecting the desired project, and navigating to the Inspections tab to schedule any available inspections. This can be done by the applicant or any listed team member with manage or edit access. Alternatively, inspections can be booked by calling 780-442-5054 or 311.
To cancel an inspection that is more than one business day away, navigate to the Inspections tab and select the "Cancel" button next to the applicable inspection. If the inspection is scheduled within one business day, call 780-442-5054 or 311 to reschedule.
Inspection results can be viewed under the Inspections tab by selecting the "Results" button on the applicable inspection.
If the City has modified an address (a problem often encountered when unit numbering changes in a multi-family rowhousing complex) and inspection results are defined against the wrong unit, please contact 780-442-5054. You can ask the Development Officer for a copy of the official row housing addressing plan or use the City's interactive map to verify the correct lot address.
