Visit John Walter's historic homes as we share stories about the community of Walterdale and get a taste of the pioneer life by participating in activities and exploring artifacts.
Located in Edmonton's River Valley, the John Walter Museum connects to multi-use trails, Kinsmen Sports Centre, Queen Elizabeth Outdoor Pool and the Grizzly Lodge Playground. Access to the museum, located on the north side of the Kinsmen Sports Centre parking lot, can be made via Walterdale Hill.
John Walter Museum is partially accessible.
First House (built in 1875) and Second House (built in 1886) have slight ramps into the buildings, but they may not be able to accommodate all types of wheelchairs.
See the Accessibility Rating System for more information.
A unique setting for photography and filming, and a small but intimate option for dinner functions, corporate events or meetings.
The museum is open to the public in July and August. For the rest of the year, the museum is available for specialty courses, birthday parties, group bookings and school programs. Special events are advertised on Facebook and Instagram.
