Over the last fifty years, mountain caribou herds in Alberta and British Columbia have gotten smaller, and some herds have disappeared. Parks Canada’s new conservation breeding program, the first for caribou in North America, is working to rebuild caribou herds in Jasper National Park. Join Karly and Madeline from Parks Canada to learn more about Jasper’s Conservation Breeding Centre, including its survival through the Jasper Wildfire in July 2024 and exciting next steps.
Hosted in the Wild Neighbors Cafe in the Zoo’s public plaza, admission to the zoo is not required for this event, and Bird Friendly Coffee-based beverages will be available for purchase. A portion of drink and snack proceeds go to supporting the Edmonton Valley Zoo’s wildlife education and conservation initiatives.
Seating is limited in the cafe, but we will work to reserve a chair for you if you RSVP for the event.
We look forward to seeing you there.
