Child Minding Service

Ages newborn to 11 years.

Our drop-in child minding services provide a fun and safe environment for children to be active while parents and caregivers enjoy the recreation facility.

A range of supervised activities is provided including puzzles, books, crafts, painting, colouring, games, music, songs and an array of physical activity opportunities.

Child minding is available for up to 2 hours for patrons of the facility. Parents or caregivers must remain in the facility while children are in child minding, and cell phone contact is required.

YMCA of Northern Alberta

The City of Edmonton has partnered with The YMCA of Northern Alberta to provide child minding services in City facilities.

Membership Benefits

Child minding services are included with your child or household annual, monthly, or continuous monthly membership!

Your Benefits Plus Child or Household Membership will give you access to all child minding locations (Clareview, The Meadows, Commonwealth, Terwillegar, and Kinsmen).

*Tots (0-23 months) with a valid pass receive unlimited visits to child minding pending internal capacity, with a maximum of 2 hours per visit. This pass is usable at all child minding locations and Indoor Playgrounds. (The Monthly Tot’s Pass is rec centre specific and does not include JJNC.)

Child-to-Staff Ratio

Child minding at Rec Centres follows the guidelines set forth by the Alberta Government for drop-in daycare centres. These ratios are:

The staff reserve the right to limit the number of children to maintain child-to-staff ratios and safety in the room.

General Guidelines

When entering the child minding area, please wash your hands before you sign your child in and out.

If your child is feeling ill, please keep them at home.

For safety reasons, parent/guardians are required to stay within the recreation facility while their child is in child minding. Cell phone contact is required.

Please label all belongings with your family name.

What You Should Bring

Diapers (if required), tissues and wipes, and a spare change of clothes - children who are not yet toilet trained must come with spare diapers.

Indoor shoes and socks - indoor footwear is mandatory for safety purposes (including socks for indoor playground use).

A healthy beverage and snack (no nut products, popcorn or chewing gum please. We are a nut free environment.)
