Micro-surfacing is a proven and cost-effective treatment to extend the life of existing asphalt roads by providing a fresh, sacrificial layer to wear and oxidize.

Subscribe for service notifications to know when road maintenance, such as micro-surfacing or paving, is happening in your area. Be sure to move your vehicles when ‘no parking’ signs are in your neighbourhood. You will receive your first notification:

1 week prior to micro-surfacing
2 weeks prior to paving

Micro-surfacing also corrects minor road defects such as raveling, which is a loss of surface stone, it also lessens the size of cracks and seals the road from moisture intrusion. Sealing the road from water and ice also reduces future cracking and helps to decrease the number of potholes which may develop over time.

The micro-surfacing material comprises crushed rock, asphalt emulsion, water, and cement powder. This process is regarded as environmentally sustainable compared to alternative road treatments, notably due to its significantly lower energy consumption. Unlike traditional grind and overlay methods, which utilize hot mix asphalt and heavy equipment, micro-surfacing requires considerably less energy.

Before Micro-Surfacing

Before micro-surfacing begins, notices will be hand delivered to all residences and large information signs will be placed at neighbourhood entrances.
All harmful or invasive vegetation is removed from the roads’ cracks using a hot torch.
Minor road repairs may be done before the application of the micro-surfacing, including pothole repairs, asphalt patching or crack sealing.
Road cleaning will be performed with a street sweeper and/or flusher truck.
‘No parking’ signs are placed on the scheduled roads a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the micro-surfacing.

During Micro-Surfacing

Crew members will knock on your door to ask that you park your vehicle on an unsigned road as near to your house as practicable.
- Please be aware that in some cases, parking may not be available in close proximity to your residence. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
The road will be swept using a street sweeper and blown clean of any remaining dust and debris immediately preceding application of the micro-surfacing material.
Overnight closures are not required, completed roads will be reopened at the end of the working day.
Vehicles will be towed as necessary if they are not relocated.

After Micro-Surfacing

Initially, road surfaces may exhibit a rough and uneven texture compared to standard asphalt roads. However, over time, with traffic and warmer temperatures, they will gradually smooth out and their appearance will enhance. This transformation process can span up to one year from the application date.
Please try to avoid making dry turns of the steering wheel or performing u-turns on recently sealed roads for 7 to 10 days to ensure proper curing of the material.
