Project Update - November 2022

Neighbourhood renewal work is complete for 2022 in Malmo Plains! Construction began on April 18 and was completed on October 17. During the 2022 construction season, we completed the following:

  • 115 Street, Malmo Road, 46 Avenue, 113A/111A Street including: the reconstruction of roads, sidewalks, curbs and gutters and new streetlights
  • Shared-use path along 115 Street from 46 Avenue to 51 Avenue
  • Whitemud pedestrian bridge Shared-use path
  • 122 Street shared-use path

Planned work for 2022 that was not completed includes alley work south of 46 Avenue and east of 111A Street. It has been deferred to May 2023 in order to coordinate with ATCO Gas on utility lowering.

Neighbourhood renewal work will resume in Malmo Plains in the first week of May 2023, weather permitting. The planned scope for 2023 will include the alley work south of 46 Avenue, east of 111A Street, north of 50 Avenue and east of Malmo Road. Prior to work resuming, construction notifications will be delivered to impacted residences.

About the Project

Neighbourhood Renewal construction work in Malmo Plains will replace street lights, curbs and gutters, sidewalk and driveway connection links and any removed landscaping (including new sod). In addition, road rehabilitation and asphalt paving will be completed. There will also be park and public space renewal.

Cost sharing opportunities were made available through the Local Improvement process for sidewalk reconstruction and decorative street light upgrades in the neighbourhood. Arterial roads and alleys were not included in the scope of work.

A series of public events were held by the project team which gave residents the opportunity to provide regular feedback on the different stages of the project including design.
