Enhancements were delivered in 2020 in coordination with the Royal Gardens Neighbourhood Renewal.
About the Project
As part of the City's Economic Development Plan, we are working to create a vibrant, livable city including making enhancements to the public realm around neighbourhood commercial centres. The public area next to Petrolia Mall, located at the southwest corner of 40 Avenue and 111 Street, was selected for these enhancements.
The What We Heard Report provides a summary of feedback received through public engagement opportunities since 2017 on the Petrolia Public Realm Enhancements project.
Initial feedback gathered in conjunction with the Royal Gardens Neighbourhood Renewal was considered in developing and refining the draft concepts, which were presented for further public feedback at a January 2019 pop-up event at the mall.
Designs are being finalized for the enhancements with delivery scheduled for the 2020 construction season.
Plans are underway to enhance and beautify the public space next to Petrolia Mall.
On January 24, 2019, a pop-up engagement was held at Matt & Ashley’s No Frills at Petrolia Mall to gather feedback on the draft concept plan for enhancements to the public space around Petrolia Mall. The draft concept included:
Landscaping and trees
Seating and garbage bins
The feedback we received will be used to help refine and adapt the draft concepts to develop a finalized plan.
Input gathered through public engagement was used to help develop draft concept plans for enhancements to the public space around Petrolia Mall. The draft concepts include landscaping, trees, seating spaces, trash receptacles and decorative street lights to enhance the space, make it more pedestrian-friendly and beautify the Petrolia Mall area.
The City has used input gathered through public engagement to develop draft concept plans for the public space enhancements around Petrolia Mall. The draft concept plans were available for public feedback at the Royal Gardens Neighbourhood Renewal event held on June 27 at Royal Gardens Community League. The concepts include landscaping, trees, seating spaces and decorative lights to enhance the space, make it more pedestrian-friendly and beautify the Petrolia Mall area. Planning is underway for additional public engagement opportunities over the summer.
To ensure potential enhancements to the public space around Petrolia Mall reflect the surrounding communities priorities and aspirations, the City asked for input through an open house and survey in 2017. Input gathered has been used in the development of the draft concepts.
