Master Composter Recyclers are community advocates for waste reduction. These volunteers help Edmontonians reduce, reuse, recycle, and compost.

Master Composter Recyclers (MCRs) are skilled volunteers who influence friends, family, neighbours and coworkers to take specific actions that reduce waste.

Program Details

This is a "learn and serve" volunteer program. It includes both training and volunteering in the community.

The program trains new volunteers, once per year.

Applications have closed for the 2024 MCR Program.

Who Should Apply?

Successful Master Composter Recyclers are:

Passionate about waste reduction and sustainability
Engaged in the community
Reliable volunteers who take initiative
Inspiring others to make personal changes that reduce waste

Eligibility Requirements

Ongoing volunteering 1-2 hours per month
Required to volunteer a minimum of 25 hours
18 years of age or older
Resident of Edmonton
Will attend all training classes
Competent in English
Have basic computer skills

Note: A Police Information Check may be required for this role.

Training Schedule

Volunteers complete 35 hours of training over 9 classes from March to May, with 1 follow-up class in September.

Training includes classroom sessions, virtual classes, facility tours and hands-on activities.

How Do MCRs Volunteer?

Master Composter Recyclers are self-directed volunteers. There are many volunteer activities to fit the skills, interests, and availability of each volunteer. Each activity encourages Edmontonians to reduce waste.
