New Fire Station Construction Projects
New fire station locations are identified in the Fire Rescue Services Station Location Master Plan. Locations are identified based on a number of factors, including: location and access requirements for service delivery; public safety risks related to response time from fire station to emergency; and access and traffic impacts of station on adjacent roadways and local streets.
A new fire station in the southeast of the city was identified in the Fire Rescue Services Station Location Master Plan. The Walker fire station will be located east of 66 Street on Ellerslie Road in one of Edmonton’s fastest growing neighbourhoods to reduce emergency response times and improve community safety.
This project is in the planning and design phase. Once completed, this stand-alone fire station will be emissions neutral as per City Policy C627.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services has identified a need for an additional fire station in northwest Edmonton. Athlone Fire Station No. 33 will be located at the corner of 132 Avenue and 129 Street. Once operational, this fire station will reduce emergency response times and improve community safety in northwest Edmonton and surrounding areas.
This project is currently in the planning and design phase. The fire station is being designed to be emissions-neutral and achieve LEED Silver certification, which aligns with the City’s Climate Resilience Policy C627 (see Council Policy A-C).
