The owner, developer or contractor responsible for a construction or demolition site is required to develop an Fire Safety Plan acceptable to a Fire Safety Codes Officer, as mandated in the National Fire Code — 2019 Alberta Edition.
It is required that you submit your completed fire safety plan to the City of Edmonton Development Services Branch at the time of commercial building permit application.
Protection of Adjacent Properties During Construction
To meet the requirements of the National Fire Code — 2019 Alberta Edition, Sentence 126.96.36.199.(1), protection of adjacent properties during construction must be considered. The options listed are based on the assumption that the site supervisor has implemented fire prevention initiatives to reduce the risk of fire. A Fire Safety Codes Officer may visit the construction site to evaluate the method of protection of adjacent properties.
