To ensure safe access for everyone, the City of Edmonton is renewing City-owned cemeteries.

Project Update - June 2025

The City of Edmonton is renewing South Haven Cemetery and Northern Lights Cemetery. The work aims to increase the cemetery columbarium (an above-ground structure where cremation urns are placed) and grade beams. It will also repair existing roads and general landscape conditions.

Construction is expected to start in June 2025 and be completed in fall 2025.

The City understands the sensitivity of these sites. Crews will do everything possible to take great care around those interred. Construction will not take place for the duration of any internment ceremony. Work will only continue when it is appropriate.

About the Project

This renewal work ensures Edmonton’s cemeteries are accessible to all and provide the services residents are looking for.

The work performed will vary by project, depending on the needs of the cemetery site.
