Numerous construction projects are taking place around the city that require adjustments to bus routes and schedules.

Current transit construction projects.

66 Street Tunnel Renewal/NAIT Station Closure

From April 28 to August 30, crews will be completing revitalization work on the 66 Street tunnel between Coliseum and Belvedere Station. As a result, Capital and Metro Line trains will run at a 12-minute frequency between 5am and 7pm on weekdays. This means that trains will run at a 6-minute frequency between Century Park and Churchill during these hours.

Due to the frequency reduction in Capital Line trains, ETS will increase capacity by operating 5-car trains on both LRT lines. However, since NAIT Station cannot accommodate 5-car trains, LRT service will be suspended to NAIT. Metro Line trains will start/end at Kingsway/Royal Alex Station, instead of NAIT.

To access the LRT from NAIT or to get to NAIT, customers can take bus routes 8 or 9. These bus routes typically run every 15 minutes and include the following bus stops:

  • #1075 (105 St and 118 Ave WB)
  • #1476 (106 St and 118 Ave EB)
  • #1532 (106 St/118 Ave loop/NAIT loop)- Route 9 only
  • #1227 (106 St and 117 Ave NB) #1223 (106 St and 117 Ave SB)

Platform Warning Tile Improvements

ETS will be upgrading platform warning tile at five outdoor LRT stations:

  • Clareview: May 17 - June 3
  • Kingsway/Royal Alex: June 7 - 17
  • MacEwan: June 21 - July 1
  • Southgate: July 5 - 17
  • Health Sciences/Jubilee: August (final dates TBD)

These upgrades will occur on weekends and during evenings on weekdays (after 7pm). To complete the upgrades at Clareview and Kingsway/Royal Alex, there may be minimal service delays as trains pull into the station (five minutes or less).

However, due to the layover time at the station, southbound trains are expected to stay on schedule.

Otherwise, trains should maintain the regular 15-minute frequency, except for special event days, when trains run every 12 minutes. If that changes, updates will be communicated on this page and on social media.

Please note these dates could change depending on the weather and the condition of the platform under the tile. Once the original tiles are removed, more work may be required before installing the new tiles.

Muttart Crossing Transit-Oriented Development around Stadium Station

The City of Edmonton’s Transit-Oriented Development south of Stadium Station includes an access road between Stadium Road and 84 Street and a pedestrian crossing from the station to the development area. To accommodate construction and maintenance, the LRT will be suspended between Churchill and Clareview on the following weekends:

  • May 18-20
  • June 8-9
  • July 6-7

Buses will replace LRT during each closure. LRT Replacement buses will also travel further south to Corona to accommodate customers travelling downtown.

On Saturdays, buses run every 5 minutes until 7pm. After 7pm until the end of service, buses run every 7-8 minutes.

On Sundays/holidays, buses run every 7-8 minutes. Before 5:30am and after 12:35am, buses run every 15 minutes.

The LRT will still run every 15 minutes between Century Park and Kingsway/Royal Alex.

Transit Centre Improvements

Making your transit better

To improve customer experience and safety in the long term, 13 transit construction projects are happening at 11 locations thanks to the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund (PTIF).

Some bus stops have moved and some bus transit buildings are closed. Temporary bus stops are in place - please leave extra travel time in order to find your new bus stop location.

The latest information on bus stop closures and move locations is found on ETS Trip Planner.
