Fireworks Safety
Be safe and make sure you have a permit to use fireworks this Canada Day. Always check to see whether there is a fire ban in effect. For more information contact the Fire Prevention Office at 780-496-3628.

Join us on Monday July 1, 2019 for a celebration like no other!

It's Canada Day 2019 and many fun, family-oriented activities and events filled with music, dance and art exhibitions are taking place around the city.

Fireworks Finale - Time:11pm

Enjoy the magnificent fireworks display over Edmonton’s river valley parks and the North Saskatchewan River.

Good Viewing Locations/Access

Pedestrian Access Only
  • River Valley Road, Walterdale Hill Road and Queen Elizabeth Park Road
  • Dantzer's Hill
  • 109 Street (between Saskatchewan Drive and the High Level Bridge)

Note: No viewing is available from Kinsmen Park. 

Pedestrian access will be unavailable in Kinsmen Park (including trail access), and the High Level and Menzies Bridges after road closures are in effect. Kinsmen playground and picnic areas are closed on Canada Day.


North-South Pedestrian Bridge Access

Pedestrian access across the North Saskatchewan River will be unavailable from 9:45pm until 90 minutes after the fireworks via:

  • High Level Bridge
  • 109 Street southbound, from 97 Avenue/High Level Bridge to 87 Avenue
  • Menzies Bridge

Pedestrian access across the river will be available via the Groat Road Bridge, James Macdonald Bridge, Walterdale Bridge and the Low Level Bridge.

Vehicle Access

Note: No viewing is available from Kinsmen Park. 

Watercraft Access

Watercraft may be taken out on the river to view the fireworks, however for safety reasons, a portion of the river in front of the launch zone at Kinsmen (from approximately the High Level Bridge to the Walterdale Bridge) will be blocked off to all watercraft during the fireworks.

Road Closures and Event Parking

Expect traffic delays 2-hours before the fireworks and 2 hours after the show. Please be patient and courteous to help to make the trip home from the fireworks safe for everyone. 

Increased parking restrictions will be in effect. The installation of no parking signs and no stopping signs will begin early on July 1 to ensure that these lanes are clear of vehicles during peak traffic times.

Edmonton Valley Zoo (11am-4pm)

Location: 13315 Buena Vista Road and 87 Avenue

Celebrate Canada Day and the Edmonton Valley Zoo’s 60th birthday! Take part in a scavenger hunt, enjoy live music and learn about all of our Canadian animal friends!

Muttart Conservatory (11am-3pm)

Location: 9626 96A Street
Cost: Regular Admission

Come down to the Muttart Conservatory to celebrate Canada’s birthday in style! Enjoy the Pyramids one last time before they close for 18 months! Canada Day activities will include patriotic planting activities, crafts, bannock cooking and special furry guests from Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (S.C.A.R.S.) 

Alberta Legislature (7-9am) and (noon-9pm)

Canada Day at the Alberta Legislature is the province's biggest Canada Day party. Visitors will enjoy free family-friendly entertainment and activities, including ceremonial events, live performances and more. The Canada Day event will highlight and honour Alberta’s diversity with many fun festivities throughout the historic Legislature Grounds.

The Works Art & Design Festival (11am-9pm)

Location: Capital Plaza at the Legislature Grounds, 9820 107 Street
Admission: By donation

Check out the free family exhibits and programming at the Works Art & Design Festival. Be sure to make a spectacle of yourself at the  Canada Day craft area.

Mill Woods Celebration (1-11pm)

Location: 66 Street and 23 Avenue
Admission: Free

The Mill Woods Canada Day Celebration will celebrate our rich Canadian history and the diversity of the community with a FREE and inclusive event featuring multicultural performances, dance, music, fun and fireworks that is open to everyone. Outdoor Pools and Spray Parks (All-day)

City of Edmonton outdoor pools are offering free admission for the entire 2019 season! Splash away the day at one of the City's outdoor pools or water play sites.

Art Gallery of Alberta (11am-5pm)

Location: 2 Sir Winston Churchill Square
Admission: Free

Celebrate Canada Day at your AGA with free Gallery admission, thanks to the support of Capital Power. Bring the whole family for art activities and a chance to view our exciting exhibitions.

Chinatown Night Market (2-8pm)

Location: 96 Street from 102 Avenue to 103 Avenue
Admission: Free

Come for a memorable afternoon and evening of martial arts, lion dance, traditional Chinese singing, vendor exhibitions, food and drink and so much more! This event is organized by the Chinese Benevolent Association and the Chinese Community.
