City of Edmonton to Assume Management of Fort Edmonton Park
The City of Edmonton will assume direct management and operation of Fort Edmonton Park on January 1, 2026, following the conclusion of the current management agreement with the Fort Edmonton Management Company (FEMCo).
This transition follows a 2022 review by the City Auditor. It is intended to streamline the park's governance and operating model, ensuring its long-term sustainability as one of Edmonton's premier heritage attractions.
The City is committed to a smooth transition, ensuring that visitors will continue to enjoy the same memorable experiences they have come to love. Fort Edmonton Park programming, public hours and events will continue as usual.
Providing the best in living history, Fort Edmonton Park is nestled on 64 hectares (158 acres) of wooded parkland along Edmonton’s river valley.
About the Park
What began as a Canada Centennial project in 1967 to reconstruct the old Fort Edmonton quickly grew to encompass much more. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Rotary Club of Edmonton and the Fort Edmonton Foundation, the Park features the 1846 Hudson’s Bay Fort as well as the Streets of 1885, 1905, and 1920, which depict the evolution of Edmonton’s early history.
As a valued City of Edmonton attraction, Fort Edmonton Park is poised for an exciting future.
