The City of Edmonton has been offering curriculum-based school tours and presentations to Edmonton teachers for over 20 years. Tours and presentations are free for schools in Edmonton.

School tour bookings for the 2017/18 school year are now full. Classroom presentation bookings are still available for spring, 2018.

Bookings for the 2018-19 school year will open on May 1, 2018.

Facility Tours

Edmonton Waste Management Centre Tour (Gr. 4-12, post-secondary)

Available: Monday to Thursday throughout the school year 
Duration: 2 hours

With its collection of recycling and composting facilities, the Edmonton Waste Management Centre has been called “the ultimate waste theme park.” Your students will discover how waste can be transformed into resources, observe household recyclables being sorted and learn the importance of taking e-waste to the Eco Station.

Note: School tour bookings fill very quickly! Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Classroom Presentations

Choose to Reuse (Gr. 4)

Available: Monday to Friday throughout the school year
Duration: 1 hour

Your students will explore the benefits of a waste free lunch, learn why ‘Reuse’ is a more important R than ‘Recycle’ and be challenged to find reuse possibilities in their everyday lives.

Waste Warriors (Gr. 4)

Available: Monday to Friday throughout the school year
Duration: 1 hour

Turn your students into waste warriors! In this hands-on program, students will learn about what happens to waste items in Edmonton, sort waste items by where they go and be challenged to identify how to better reduce, reuse and recycle.

Garbage In, Compost Out (Gr. 4-6)

Available: Wednesdays and Fridays throughout the school year
Duration: 2 hours

The Compost Chef cooks up compost! Students will plant a seed and make a compost tea bag. Students will also start a worm bin, explore semi-finished worm compost and adopt the worms for their classroom. 

Note: For this program, 2-3 adult helpers are requested.

Junior High, High School and Assembly Presentations
