ETS Holiday Lights Tours are back!

ETS Holiday Lights Tours returns on December 12 and 14!

ETS Holiday Lights Tour tickets will go on sale November 18 at 11am. Tickets can be bought online through Edmonton Arts Council, by phone at 780-420-1757 or in-person at the Edmonton Arts Council Shop in Churchill Square.

Tickets are $5 per person. Please note that a maximum of 4 tickets can be purchased per transaction. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to Edmonton’s Food Bank.

If you use a wheelchair or mobility device, or plan to bring a stroller on the tour, please call Edmonton Arts Council Shops & Services Events (780-420-1757) to purchase an accessible ticket. Space for wheelchairs, mobility devices and strollers, is limited on each bus.

What to expect

Tours will start at 6pm, 6:15pm, 6:30pm and 6:45pm each day. The tour is approximately two hours, and is subject to weather and/or road conditions. Tours depart from the west side of City Hall (northbound on 100 Street NW).

Guests can wait inside the west entrance of City Hall (near the Hallway Cafe) to check in, stay warm and use the Hallway Cafe washrooms. Tours include a stop at the Alberta Legislature where there will be a layover before the bus departs for Candy Cane Lane.

The bus will return guests to Churchill Square and City Hall at the end of the tour.

ETS Receives National Award for Accessibility Campaign With CNIB

On November 5 at the Canadian Urban Transit Association Awards ceremony in Montreal, Edmonton Transit Service became the first recipient of the Lorna Stewart Corporate Leadership Award for our work with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) on our Get on Board campaign.

This award is named for former ETS employee Lorna Stewart, who was a trailblazer for accessible transit systems in both Edmonton and Vancouver. In her leadership position with Dedicated Accessible Transit Service (DATS), she placed accessibility at the forefront of service planning, and while in Community Relations, she promoted inclusivity across all modes of transit. She demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to inclusive transportation that enabled all riders to travel with independence and dignity.

This award recognizes the exceptional efforts of transit agencies, paratransit systems and businesses that have gone above and beyond to dismantle barriers in transit and provide inclusive, accessible transit services.

The Get On Board campaign aimed to understand and remove barriers for riders who are blind, deafblind or with low vision. ETS developed an accessibility action plan that led to improvements for riders who are blind, deafblind or have low vision, including better LRT audio announcements, high-contrast curbs and benches, clearer bus signage and more visible emergency strips. Leadership at our ETS branch also completed disability awareness training to strengthen awareness and understanding.

ETS also launched a Rider Respect campaign to promote awareness about visible and invisible disabilities.

Check Out Our New Bus Wrap Inspired by Indigenous Seniors!

Thanks to our recent collaboration with the Edmonton Aboriginal Seniors Centre (EASC) and its members, one of our buses will have a new design this fall! This design was inspired by multiple conversations with Indigenous seniors, as well as EASC staff, as they shared their values and experiences with City staff.

The design on the outside of the bus features vibrant colours and highlights symbolic images, including teepees, sweetgrass and gathering places.

The bus interior highlights the City's collaboration with Edmonton Aboriginal Seniors Centre and the organization’s commitment to preserving knowledge and building relationships with Indigenous seniors.

This bus has entered regular ETS service and will serve routes across the city. This bus will complement the sweetgrass bus wrap that launched in 2022 thanks to a partnership with iHuman and Indigenous youth.

The City of Edmonton and ETS are grateful to the EASC staff and members who were involved on this project. We appreciated listening to your stories and learning from the feedback you provided. We hope the culmination of the work represents a welcoming space for Indigenous Peoples and inspires thoughts and discussion among non-Indigenous and Indigenous people alike about reconciliation and our treaty relationship.

Our LRT mechanics play a vital role in keeping our light rail vehicles safe and reliable by conducting inspections, performing preventative maintenance and carrying out repairs.

We are 100% self-sufficient, so all maintenance and repairs for Capital and Metro Line trains are done in-house. This work reduces train downtime for repairs, and saves taxpayers millions of dollars. This position is perfect for individuals who are Red Seal mechanics and able to work nights and weekends, with the ability to transition to day shifts in the future. Currently, the 10-hour shifts being offered to new employees are:

3pm - 1:30am
8pm - 6:30am

We offer competitive pay and excellent benefits, including a pension plan, health benefits and three weeks of paid vacation. Paid training is provided to help new staff become a certified LRT mechanic.
