Good Viewing Locations

  • Alberta Legislature Grounds (Capital Plaza - north plaza)
  • Government House Park (Groat Road and River Valley Road)
  • Ezio Faraone Park
  • RE/MAX Field - Those attending the Edmonton Prospects vs the Brooks Bombers game on July 1 are welcome to remain in their seats at the RE/MAX Field to watch the fireworks

Viewing areas accessible on foot only (closed to vehicles):

  • Victoria Park / River Valley Road
  • Walterdale Hill Road and Queen Elizabeth Park Road

Pedestrian access is unavailable in Kinsmen Park, Walterdale Hill, and the High Level and Menzies Bridges after road closure are in effect. Kinsmen playground and picnic areas are closed on Canada Day.

Watercraft may be taken out on the river to view the fireworks, however for safety reasons, a portion of the river in front of the launch zone at Kinsmen (from approximately the High Level Bridge to the Walterdale Bridge) will be blocked off to all watercraft during the fireworks.

Road Closures

Expect traffic delays 2-hours before the fireworks and 90-minutes after the show. Please be patient and courteous to help to make the trip home from the fireworks safe for everyone. For road closure details see the Current Traffic Disruptions map.

Event Parking

Usual restrictions and increased parking bans will be in effect. The installation of no parking signs and no stopping signs will begin early on July 1st to ensure that these lanes are clear of vehicles during peak traffic times.

There will be no stopping or parking from 7pm until midnight at these locations:

  • Whyte Avenue, between 101 Street and 109 Street
  • Jasper Avenue, between 101 Street and 112 Street
  • 109 Street, between 99 Avenue and 104 Avenue
  • 109 Street, between 82 Avenue and Saskatchewan Drive
  • 107 Street, between 99 Avenue and 102 Avenue
  • 105 Street, between 102 Avenue and 104 Avenue

Vehicles illegally parked will be tagged and towed. With minimal parking in the area of many venues, Edmontonians are encouraged to take the bus or LRT.

Fireworks Safety

Take Transit to Canada Day Events

ETS Service

As there's a lot going on this Canada Day, Edmonton Transit riders are reminded to allow plenty of time to get where you're going.

  • All ETS bus routes and LRT will operate on their regular Sunday schedules—regular transit fares apply
  • Use ETS real-time tools or call 311 to find out when the next bus or LRT is coming
  • Late Night Owl Service will be available until 3am on routes 1, 4, 8, 9 and 512
  • Use an ETS Day Pass to and from Canada Day events with your family! Up to four children (ages 12 and under), when accompanied by an adult, can use the Day Pass to ride ETS all day. Cost of the Day Pass is $9.50.

Extra Service

Starting at 8pm extra service will be provided to and from the fireworks (Downtown and in Mill Woods) on Route 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 15. Routes that normally end between 10pm and midnight on Sunday evenings will be extended past midnight. Late Night Owl Service is also available until 3am on Route 1, 4, 8, 9 and 512.

Route 9 and 52 will detour during the closure of Walterdale Hill, Queen Elizabeth Park Road and the High Level Bridge. Plan ahead by viewing all bus route detour details.

Extra LRT service will start on the Capital Line at 6pm with last trains leaving Clareview and Century Park stations at 1:10am. Metro Line trains will run every 15 minutes from NAIT to Health Sciences Station. Some passengers may need to transfer trains to reach their destination.

Potential Transit Delays Following Fireworks

NOTE: Depending on wind and weather conditions, LRT service over the Menzies Bridge (between University and Grandin Stations) may be suspended starting at approximately 10:45pm and could remain closed for up to 60 minutes. Should the bridge be closed, trains will continue to operate between Century Park and University Stations on the south side of the river, and between Grandin and Clareview Stations on the north side of the river.

If you need to cross the river, please be aware of the potential for delay and adjust your travel plans accordingly.

To help keep LRT moving on time, please stand clear of doors and allow people to disembark before boarding.
