Westmount is a 54-suite building, one of five new modular supportive housing sites developed in collaboration with Homeward Trust and with support from the Government of Canada’s Rapid Housing Initiative and the City of Edmonton.
This new building, completed in mid-September 2022, will be legally transferred to Homeward Trust after all necessary permits are received. As the owner of the site, Homeward Trust will work closely with a non-profit organization to operate this facility.
Moving into supportive housing is a gradual process as each resident has specific needs. Homeward Trust and the operator will be working together to minimize disruption for residents. The operator will be hosting an open house after residents move in. As well, the operator is mandated to complete and share a Good Neighbour Plan with nearby neighbours and stakeholders.
As part of the preparation work, Homeward Trust is ensuring each unit has furniture and appropriate mobility and accessibility adjustments. All units are equipped with basic furnishings, including tables, chairs, couches, TVs and beds. Residents are given choices around other basics, which will help them determine how their new home looks and feels.
Homeward Trust also runs Edmonton’s Coordinated Access program, which helps identify individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of losing their home, then matches them with safe housing and services. To expedite move-ins to the five new supportive housing sites, Homeward Trust has been maintaining a list of individuals suitable for this kind of housing.
