The City of Edmonton continuously improves its pest management policy and is currently working on several integrated pest management (IPM) projects.
The City of Edmonton works closely with community groups to stop the spread of prohibited noxious weeds listed in the Alberta Weed Control Act.
Most of our serious weeds are plants that have been introduced from other parts of the world, often leaving their natural enemies behind. Biological control of weeds attempts to restore the natural control of these plants by introducing enemies from their native region.
Edmontonians were invited to review the proposed exemptions and provide their feedback, advice or suggestions on how to align the motion with the policy to ensure operational effectiveness and efficiency.
Two public engagement sessions were hosted in March 2019 and these sessions were intended to gather feedback on the proposed list of exemptions that the City would like to include in the cosmetic herbicide restriction motion, previously passed by the City Council in June 2015. This motion needs to be updated to ensure operational and regulatory alignment with the updated Integrated Pest Management Policy C501A.
