What does sustainability mean?
Sustainability is our ability to live and thrive for a long time in harmony with the Earth’s natural systems.
It is achieved by meeting our needs by using physical, natural and social resources that are available or replaceable and allows living systems to thrive forever.
In the context of a city, resiliency is our capacity to withstand and bounce back from environmental disturbances. For us to be resilient, we must be aware of potential risks, and take action to minimize these possibilities.
Risks related to climate change and energy include our 95% dependency on fossil fuels, our reliance on a centralized electrical system and challenges we face when severe weather events occur.
