About the Strategy
The Way We Move, Edmonton’s Transportation Master Plan, identifies the City’s commitment to support safe, efficient and effective goods movement in order to support economic development and the competitiveness of businesses within the Capital Region. The transportation of commodities throughout the city is largely carried out by trucks and is critical for an efficient and productive economy.
The Edmonton Goods Movement Strategy is intended to guide transportation, funding and land use decisions to enhance the efficiency and safety of goods movement in the City of Edmonton within a regional context. The strategy supports the City of Edmonton’s Corporate Outcomes, aids in achieving corporate strategic targets and is one piece in the implementation of The Way We Move.
The strategy identifies new ideas to improve goods movement and builds
on the strengths of our existing initiatives and transportation network. The strategy also updates what we know about
goods movement in Edmonton in light of the many transportation infrastructure changes and growth that have taken place over the years.
The last complete review of trucks and dangerous goods routes was carried out in 1996 and produced the 1997 City-Wide Truck Route Study. Another study in 2001 reviewed goods movement in the city and the region.
