Description/Purpose
A Business Improvement Area (BIA) is a specific geographic area of the city in which businesses pool resources and work together, through a formal association, to enhance the economic development of their area. In accordance with Alberta's Municipal Government Act, the Chinatown and Area Business Improvement Area is established for the purposes of:
- Improving, beautifying, and maintaining property in the Area
- Developing, improving, and maintaining public parking
- Promoting the Chinatown and Area Business Improvement Area as a business or shopping district

Term
The Board of Directors of the Chinatown and Area Business Improvement Area is nominated by members of the association and appointed by City Council annually for a one-year term, from January 1 to December 31.
How To Get Involved
The City of Edmonton does not coordinate Board of Director appointments to Business Improvement Area Associations. If you are interested in serving on this Board, please contact the Association.
