Scale Conversion Table

Scale is the relationship between distance on the map and distance on the ground. Large scale maps cover small areas in greater detail, while small scales cover large areas with less detail.

1:200 1cm = 2m 1" = 17'
1:500 1cm = 5m 1" = 42'
1:1000 1cm = 10m 1" = 83'
1:5000 1cm = 50m 1" = 416'
1:30000 1cm = 300m 1" = 1/2 mile
1:40000 1cm = 400m 1" = 5/8 mile

Refer to the map legend for the date of the map, and in some cases, the source and accuracy of the information.
