February 2012 - Construction Update
- Grind and overlay of the existing roadway from Terwillegar Drive to Hodgson Boulevard has been deferred to 2012, along with construction of roadway bus pads and some minor miscellaneous work.
- The 2012 scope of work includes the widening of Rabbit Hill Road from Hodgson Boulevard to north of MacTaggart Drive, along with rehabilitation of the existing lanes of Rabbit Hill Road and the 23 Avenue intersection.
- Landscaping work will proceed in 2012, starting from Riverbend Road and proceeding south to MacTaggart Drive.
About the Project
The City of Edmonton is widening Rabbit Hill Road between Riverbend Road and Magrath Boulevard.
The first stage of the project will be widening and resurfacing Rabbit Hill Road from Riverbend Road to Hodgson Boulevard in 2011. In 2012, the construction will continue from Hodgson Boulevard to Magrath Boulevard. The widening is required to accommodate the increased traffic volumes.
Construction Includes
- 4 lane road widened from 2 lanes.
- New traffic signals at the intersections of Rabbit Hill Road and Riverbend Road, MacTaggart Drive, Oakes Gate, and the commercial access south of Leger Way.
- Rebuild of existing signals at the intersections of Rabbit Hill Road with Terwillegar Drive and with 23 Avenue.
- Rebuild of pedestrian signals at Bulyea Road.
- New pedestrian signals at Carter Crest Road and Magrath Boulevard.
- Additional sidewalks and multi-use trails.
- New streetlighting and landscaping.
Traffic Impacts
- One lane will be maintained in each direction during construction.

The information session was held at the Whitemud Creek Community Center (951 Ogilvie Blvd. NW). It provided information about the project and gave an opportunity for attendees to ask questions of Project members in a one-on-one setting.
