BOBspotting
See also BOB-spotting.
Part of speech: verb.
Definition: the practice of watching ETS customers and noting their appropriate bus behaviours. To detect, discern, especially visibly, to spy, customers demonstrating their best BOBs…behaviour on buses.
Throughout October, Edmonton Transit staff will be BOBspotting. They’re on the lookout for customers who are exhibiting the Best of Bob's behaviours - everything from giving up their seats for people who need them, to moving to the back of the bus, to using appropriate language.
On four Wednesday mornings (October 8, 15, 22, and 29), bus operators will be handing out prizes to their passengers who are being good BOBs, to thank them for showing respect and courtesy on our transit system. During the midday periods, on the Routes 1 and 9, ETS Community Relations staff will be on the prowl on the buses, watching for passengers who are demonstrating they're the Best Of the Bunch, and awarding prize packs to the lucky - and courteous - winners!
Time to Fall Back
Daylight Time ends the first Sunday in November.
Remember to turn your clocks back one hour.
Riverbend Open Houses
ETS is holding two open houses in the Riverbend/Terwillegar neighbourhoods to discuss coming changes to the transit service in their areas.
The opening of the South Campus LRT Station and the Leger Transit Centre at Leger Road and 23 Avenue will mean changes to bus routes. The changes are scheduled for April 2009.
The first Open House on October 7 is being held at Holy Trinity Chinese Anglican Church, 1428 - 156 Street. Hours are 4pm - 8pm.
The second Open House on October 15 is at St Mary Catholic Elementary School, 490 Rhatigan Road East. Hours are 4pm - 8pm.
ETS staff will be showing the proposed route changes for residents to review and provide comments.
Halloween Safety
ETS is participating with UNICEF in the “Partners for Safety” program again this year.
This program is designed to encourage young people to participate in the Trick or Treat for UNICEF Program by helping to ensure a safer environment for children on Halloween night.
“Partners for Safety” tells kids about the types of vehicles they should be approaching if they need assistance on Halloween night.

This year the CIBC Run for the Cure is Sunday October 5.
ETS supports this Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation fundraiser by providing free travel on ETS regular service, bus and LRT, from 8am - 4pm for participants wearing a 2008 Run T-shirt.
The event takes place at Churchill Square and participants are encouraged to use transit to avoid traffic congestion.
Every year this event raises millions of dollars for breast cancer research. For information or to register check http://www.cbcf.org/.
Thanks to our Customers
Thank you for your patience and understanding during the last week of August and first week of September as we upgraded our signal system on the LRT.
The upgrades completed enable us to merge the current signal system with the one being installed for the LRT extension to Century Park.
The new, upgraded signal system is a critical component in our ability to provide safe, reliable transportation to our customers traveling on the LRT system.
Belvedere LRT Parking
Limited parking has been a concern for customers using Belvedere LRT Station and this fall the Fort Road construction project has made it even more challenging.
Fort Road redevelopment will affect the parking area on the south east corner of Fort Road and 129 Avenue, currently used by LRT customers as well as some of the parking spaces in the lot adjacent to the transit centre.
In an effort to address the parking requirements at Belvedere, ETS is opening a temporary parking lot just to the east of Belvedere Station on 129 Avenue and Sherin Road. Temporary fencing has been installed on the site. Customers will be able to use this lot until spring 2009. We’ll be working on the lot over the summer with the intent to have a more permanent park and ride facility available for fall 2009.
ETS Boo at the Zoo
ETS staff will be at Boo at the Zoo on Sunday, October 26 from 11am - 4pm as part of the UNICEF “Partners for Safety” promotion.
This event highlights the groups participating in the program and give kids an opportunity to see the types of vehicles they should be approaching for assistance on Halloween night, plus safety tips and a variety of promotional items.
Edmonton Women’s Show
ETS is pleased to be a sponsor of the Edmonton Women’s Show, October 18 and 19 at the Northlands Agricom.
