Transit Peace Officer Full-time
The Edmonton Transit Peace Officer strives to enhance the safety and security of our customers, employees and the general public. Transit Peace Officer actively promote order maintenance, disorder prevention and voluntary compliance with social norms surrounding acceptable transit use.

Reporting to the Transit Peace Officer Team Leader, the incumbent will provide security services on all ETS property and facilities.
Responsibilities include:
- Response to security related incidents, emergencies and intrusion alarms,
Hours of Work
Full-time Transit Peace Officer work various shifts (including days, evenings and nights) any 7 days of the week with a guaranteed minimum of 40 hours weekly.
Salary Range and Benefits
The rates quoted (2009 rates) are in accordance with the collective agreement between the Amalgamated Transit Union 569 and the City of Edmonton.
Awaiting CPO Status: Salary Grade: 005, $25.22 - $27.93 (Hourly).
With CPO Status: Salary Grade: 006, $28.87 - $31.99 (Hourly).
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 and Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Law Enforcement, Security or Criminology combined with three (3) years of experience working with the public in a customer service environment.
- One (1) year of experience working in a law enforcement or security environment is preferred.
- Current certification in Standard First aid and Basic CPR.
- Successful completion of the Physical Abilities Readiness Evaluation (P.A.R.E.)
- Applicants must successfully obtain Peace Officer status within the Province of Alberta.
- Skilled in exercising good tact, sound judgment and firmness in dealing with difficult situations and with the public.
- Knowledge of applicable policies, bylaws, acts, legislation and basic principles of loss prevention.
- Knowledge of powers of arrest.
- Understanding of officer safety techniques.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to defuse potentially volatile situations, and to recognize and react appropriately to dangerous situations.
- Ability to use current computer software including word processing and databases.

- a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of application) indicating at least a class 5 license and showing no suspensions and no more than four (4) demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
- Copy of current certification in Standard First aid and Basic CPR.
- Candidates selected for an interview may be required to provide a current “Clear” Security Clearance check from the Edmonton Police Service.
Appointments of successful candidates will be subject to:
- Successfully obtaining a Rail Division “B” rule book Certification.
- Successfully completing PPCT and/or PSS training, and Cooperative Policing course.
- Successfully obtaining Municipal Bylaw Enforcement Officer Status / Community Peace Officer Status, and a City of Edmonton Drivers Permit.
- Successfully passing City of Edmonton medical.
- An enhanced Security Clearance during the six (6) month probationary period.
