Northeast to Gorman LRT

The City of Edmonton is studying an extension of the Northeast LRT line from Clareview to Gorman. City Council approved the Clareview to Gorman LRT Concept Plan in July 2008. Preliminary Engineering is now underway. The Northeast extension will go from Clareview LRT station on the existing CN right-of-way to an LRT station and Transit Centre at Gorman, north of 153 Avenue and west of Victoria Trail. This study will also include Concept Planning for a Temporary Park and Ride facility at the location of the future LRT station.

What's New

A public Open House on the Preliminary Engineering phase of the NE LRT project was held on November 4, 2009 at Clareview Arena Hall. Approximately 90-100 people attended the sessions, to view display boards and speak to project team staff.

The Concept Planning study for the NE LRT extension reviewed several alternate routes. Based on land development opportunities, with a view to minimizing community impacts and project costs, the current alignment was recommended. Public Open Houses were held in March 2008 for this project. The City will continue to meet with key stakeholders throughout the Preliminary Engineering phase of this extension.

Land use and transportation are interconnected. Concurrent updates to the Municipal Development Plan (MDP) and the Transportation Master Plan (TMP) support Edmonton’s need to continue expanding the City's LRT Network.
