What's New

Preliminary engineering for an LRT extension north of Clareview station was completed in 2010. The City is moving forward to design and construction once funding becomes available.

About the Project

The current preliminary engineering project ends at a future station in the Gorman area, north of 153 Avenue and east of the CN tracks.

• A 2.9 km extension north of Clareview station, primarily within the existing CN right-of-way
• LRT station at Gorman, north of 153 Avenue
• Multi-use trail from Clareview station to 151 Avenue, with provision for future connections to adjacent park areas
• Street-level LRT crossings at 144 Avenue and 153 Avenue

Project History

February 2010 - City Council decided West and Southeast LRT lines are next priority 

City Council decided the West and Southeast LRT lines is the next priority after, or concurrent with, the North LRT to NAIT.

November 4, 2009 - Public Open House 

100 people attended, viewed display boards, and spoke to the project team.

Land use planning is closely interconnected with the Northeast LRT extension. Many ideas were explored during preliminary design on the development of the Gorman station area.

June 2009 - City Council approved the Gorman Community Concept Plan

The plan identifies Gorman as an good location for a Transit Oriented Development (TOD). However, more detailed land use planning for the Gorman neighbourhood has not yet been completed.

As land use planning evolves, the City will be in a better position to develop appropriate staging strategies for the Gorman station area development. In addition, many of the finer details on the Gorman station will be developed at a later date to ensure the station is fully integrated with the neighbourhood, both in the short and long term.

July 2008 - City Council approved LRT from Clareview to the North City limits

City Council approved the alignment and approximate station locations for the extension of the LRT from Clareview to the North City limits.
