1. What is the City of Edmonton AISH Transit Pass?

Edmonton City Council approved a special subsidized transit pass for AISH recipients living in Edmonton. The cost of this pass is $32.00 per month (effective for March 2010 Pass). The Provincial Ministry of Alberta Seniors and Community Supports has agreed to cooperate with the City of Edmonton in helping those Edmonton AISH recipients interested in this program to enrol in it.

2. How much does it cost?

The monthly pass costs $32.00 per month (effective for March 2010 Pass).

3. Who is eligible for this discounted pass?

Persons who reside in Edmonton and currently receive the AISH benefit.

4. How do I sign up for this program?

Application forms are available through the AISH Program and online. Please return completed application forms to the 5^th Floor AISH Office, 12323-Stony Plain Road NW, T5N 4B4.

5. How is payment made?

AISH recipients who choose to participate in this program will have their bank account debited in the amount of $31 ($32 per month effective for March 2010) on the day they receive their AISH benefits. Payment must be made before a pass is mailed out. If an individual AISH recipient doesn't have a bank account, contact your Financial Benefit Worker.

6. Is this pass the same as an adult monthly transit pass?

Yes.

7. Can AISH recipients use this pass on the DATS system?

No. This pass is for use on the regular transit services, that is, the buses and the LRT. One of the goals of this program is to encourage persons with disabilities, who are able, to try the regular transit system with its many accessible features.

8. How long does an AISH recipient have to commit to this program?

As long as they wish to receive transit passes at the discounted rate.

9. Can an AISH recipient exit the program once they start?

Yes. You can make arrangements with Edmonton Transit to stop the auto debit transactions temporarily or permanently. You will need to let ETS know of this change five working days before receiving your AISH benefits.

10. What if one loses their bus pass or it gets stolen?

Lost and stolen bus passes will be considered the same as lost or stolen cash and will not be replaced. Additional passes may be purchased at the regular adult rate.

11. When is the deadline to participate in this program?

There is no deadline. You can enrol in the program at any time.

12. Will personal information be shared with the City of Edmonton?

Yes. In order to enrol in the program, the Province must verify that a person is receiving AISH benefits and resides in Edmonton. The City requires your banking information and mailing address to process payment and to mail the bus pass each month. Your personal information is protected through the provisions of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

13. Where do AISH recipients get their monthly passes?

Once the City verifies that payment has been made, the pass will be mailed to the address provided by the AISH recipient. The pass for the upcoming month should arrive in the mail a few days before the start of that month.

14. Are these passes transferable to other adults?

Passes are intended for the use of AISH recipients only and may not be transferred or sold to others.

15. Is this a temporary or permanent program?

This is now an ongoing program, funded and approved by Edmonton City Council. As with any program, the terms and conditions are subject to change at the discretion of the City of Edmonton.

16. Can other low income individuals, or people participating in other income support programs, participate in this subsidized transit pass program?

No. This program is only for those AISH recipients, residing in Edmonton, who sign-up to participate in the program.

17. Can a disabled person who doesn't receive AISH benefits purchase this discounted pass?

No, this program is limited to those persons residing in Edmonton who are currently receiving the AISH benefit.
