South Campus Station Access
-
Following the opening of South Campus LRT Station, we’ve had customer enquiries about station access other than that provided by bus or train.
South Campus was designed as a pedestrian oriented station to accommodate future expansion by the U of A around the site.
Pedestrians and cyclists can access the station via the multi-use trail connecting all the South LRT stations from Health Sciences to Century Park. As well they can use 113 Street and 65 Avenue.

There is no parking or passenger drop off at South Campus LRT Station because there is no private vehicle access to the station.
LRT Carpool Parking
-
The City has introduced reserved carpool parking spots at the Clareview, Belvedere and Stadium LRT park and ride lots as a pilot program to promote sustainable transportation choices.
Carpoolers using the LRT park and ride locations will be rewarded with a prime parking spot as an incentive for commuters to try carpooling.
Five carpooling stalls have been reserved in each of the three park and ride sites and are identified by signs. To take advantage of the pilot stalls, you must have one driver plus a minimum of one passenger in your vehicle.

New LRT Cars in Regular Service

-
Three new SD160 Light Rail Vehicles were added into regular service on Tuesday, January 27 at 6:07am.
The three cars are connected to form one train that is scheduled in with the other trains currently providing service on the line. New cars and existing U2 light rail cars will operate as separate train units because the electrical couplers are different and the cars have slightly different performance characteristics.
A total of 37 new SD160 cars are being delivered to Edmonton to provide service on the South LRT Extension to Century Park and increase capacity on the existing Clareview to Health Sciences/Jubilee line. More new cars will be scheduled into service as they complete their certification tests.
LRT Vehicle Retrofit
-
Our Edmonton LRT vehicles are now 24 to 28 years old, and to keep them providing safe and efficient service we've embarked on a retrofit program for them. At this stage in their life cycle, the cars are experiencing some problems with body corrosion, mechanical wear, obsolete parts and control systems, and a few other age related issues. By addressing these issues now, we expect to get another 10 to 15 years of service from them. (Can you imagine getting 40 years of service from your vehicle?) And as a customer, you can continue to receive comfortable, secure and reliable on-time service.
The program is scheduled to start this year with the work completed over a number of years. As well, this project includes updating all of the vehicles into the blue and silver livery. The cost for the retrofits is estimated to be $25 million with part of the funding coming from the New Deal for Cities and Communities federal grant program.
