ETS Awards Safe Drivers

Congratulations to the 886 ETS operators who received Safe Driving Awards in 2008.

The awards are presented to ETS operators who drive the 12 months of the year without having a preventable accident. This is a remarkable accomplishment given our increasingly congested roads and the many daily challenges our operators face.

Nineteen operators have driven safely for more than 30 years during their careers.   Congratulations to John Wyllie (36 years); Boris Rogutski and Larry Watts (35 years); James Hansen Sr. and Don Serna (34 years); Paul Riches (33 years); David Fuller and Roderick Westlin (32 years); Stanley Hartzel, Gary Hrabec, Ronald Hrabec, John Kostelny, David Lewis, Terry Napora, Sardul Purewal, Greg Schultz, John Tait, Edward Warry, and Maurice Wolshlager (31 years).

Edmonton Transit Receives National Awards

Edmonton Transit System (ETS) has received three national awards at the annual spring Canadian Urban Transit Conference for safety, innovation, and exceptional performance/outstanding achievement.

The DATS "Call Ahead" telephone technology project received the award for exceptional performance/outstanding achievement. Operators use an interactive voice response system located on board the DATS vehicle to send an automated phone call to customers to let them know their DATS ride is on the way. This service reduces waiting times at customer pick-up locations, resulting in more efficient service delivery.

ETS Security received a safety award for the Intelligence-led Security Resource Deployment Model. This computerized model deploys security personnel to prevent and deter crime. A daily crime forecast shows expected crime "hot spots", enabling security staff to target their efforts in areas showing the greatest probability for criminal activity. Proactive response to incidents where officers are on scene before something happens has increased 159 per cent using this model.

Daytech Limited, a consultant working with ETS, received an innovation award. Daytech developed a unique sectional shelter system containing both heat and ventilation, for installation at temporary locations. Prefabricated components and mechanical connections minimize the on-site set up time.

You're Welcome Edmonton Awards

ETS boasts some exceptional employees - and Operator Rod Evans is an excellent example. Rod is this year's Outstanding Driver in the You're Welcome Edmonton Awards. The "You're Welcome Edmonton" Awards are designed to recognize employees and volunteers in the service industry who pride themselves in promoting Greater Edmonton through exemplary service, warm hospitality and commitment to excellence. That's Rod in a nutshell, and he had great opportunity to put his skills at welcoming visitors to work while driving the Eddie Bus service last summer. Congratulations Rod. ETS is proud to have you on board!
